A crop is a non-animal species or genus that is grown for cutting as food, fodder, or fuel. Major global crops include sugarcane, pumpkin, corn, wheat, rice, butchery, soybeans, grass, potatoes and cotton.
Crops are divided into two parts according to the season. (1) Rabi crop (2) Kharif crop.
Spring harvest.
This refers to winter crops. These crops are sown in early winter and are harvested in summer. Rabi 'is an Arabic word meaning spring. Rabi crops are crops that are planted at the beginning of winter season and are sown in spring season. Tomatoes, tobacco rapeseed and mustard, potatoes, onions, flaxseed, garlic, coriander, barley.
Fruits: Rabi fruits include malt, locust, berry, guava, apple, chicory, pomegranate, pear, mango (Japanese fruit), sangtra, papaya, and coconut. Honey is also usually obtained with the rabi crop.
Kharif crop.
This refers to summer crops. These crops are sown at the beginning or during the rainy season and are harvested in late summer or autumn. Cotton, millet, paddy, millet, maize, peanut, guava,
Kamada and sunflower are some of the Kharif crops. Kharif crops need hot and humid climate whereas cold and dry climate is best suited for Rabi crops. Rainfall plays a significant role in the production of two types of crops, in view of the fact that rain is good for kharif crops while it can be bad for rabi crops. (Guevara)
